Mother of Abominations: Queer People's Place in Babalon

Image
It just occurred to me that I haven't written a post in almost four months; so now, having just got back from a lovely trip to New York, I've decided to make one on a topic that I've been meaning to discuss since the beginning of June (aka pride month): the place of queer people as inherent children of Babalon. I write this with the ultimate intention of arming queer folks, as we are living in an age where our defenses are being taken from us as a means to persecute and erase us, particularly trans folk. As such, I hope this argument may be of use to all who read this.       This is certainly a touchy notion, as for queer people to accept our place as children of the Great Mother, we must first embrace a title that has tormented us for centuries: abomination. This singular word was the center of a presentation I once gave at my university on this very topic, chosen specifically for my claims due to its use against queer people. The most quoted con...

Blood on Her Petals: My Discovery of Babalon & Worship of the Red Goddess

Image
In my previous post, I gave a short introduction to the goddess Babalon, primarily her history and attributes. Now, I'd like to present a working guide to her worship for those who feel called to (or by) the Holy Whore. If you have not read my previous post, please do, as it is good to have a basic understanding of the goddess prior to her active worship, as with most things. Note that this is not comprehensive, but merely a beginner's guide. It is important, however, that you are not simply reaching out to her from a place of intrigue, but of genuine desire and/or need (more on that below).      I intentionally use the word "worship" rather than "work with" or "venerate", as Babalon demands your all. She is not a goddess to be called upon once then forgotten about. Once you acknowledge her, she is there to stay, and the only options you have are to accept or deny the Love she offers to you. She demands of her followers every ounce ...

Sex, Death, and Roses: An Introduction to the Goddess Babalon

"So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication: and upon her forehead was a name written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration."      - Revelations 17:3-6 KJV     While she has held many names and faces across lands throughout the millennia, including Inanna/Ishtar and perhaps even Venus, the goddess we now call Babalon was revealed to the world through John of Patmos, author of the Book of Revelations. According to Christian m...
